Xlendi Tower - Seaside Rides

Tower Trail – Munxar to Xlendi

Starting from Munxar Parish Church and winding along Gozo’s stunning southern cliffs. This moderate trail passes by Sanap Viewpoint and descends toward the historic Xlendi Tower. Expect peaceful countryside, sea views, and a mix of paved and gravel paths, ideal for adventurous riders seeking a short but unforgettable ride.

Start: Munxar Parish Church

Your journey begins in Munxar, a peaceful Gozitan village known for its charming church and narrow countryside roads. This point marks the beginning of a leisurely ride that quickly leads into Gozo’s rural heart.

From here, you’ll follow a red-marked trail that offers two diverging options:

  • Option A: Scenic countryside route to Sanap Cliffs
  • Option B: A gentle descent toward Xlendi Tower & Bay

Both options can be combined in a loop, or done separately depending on time and energy levels.

Option A: Sanap Cliffs

📍 Route to Sanap Cliffs
This leg takes you through serene farmland and low-traffic roads, ending at the Sanap Viewpoint, one of Gozo’s best-kept secrets. Along the way, enjoy rolling hills, distant sea glimmers, and the soothing calm of Gozo’s southern side.

📍 Sanap Cliffs Route End
Here, park your eBike and take a few moments to walk along the cliffside trail.
🥾 The terrain is open and windswept, perfect for dramatic photographs and mindful reflection.
⚠️ Important: These cliffs are high, unfenced, and steep. Stay well back from the edge, especially in windy conditions.

Option B: Down to Xlendi Tower & Bay

📍 Gate to Xlendi Path
As the route veers downhill, you’ll come to a narrow pole-gated passage. You can pass your eBike underneath or from the side — it’s designed to block vehicles, not adventurers.

📍 Bike Parking – Xlendi Access Point
Shortly after the gate, you’ll reach a dedicated area near a fence where you can park and lock your eBike securely before proceeding on foot.

📍 End of Route – Xlendi Tower
At the edge of the route stands the Xlendi Tower, one of Gozo’s oldest coastal watchtowers. Built in the 17th century, it offers panoramic views of the open sea and Xlendi’s rugged bay entrance.

📍 Yellow Line – Optional Shortcut to Xlendi Bay
Want to head straight down to the bay? Use the yellow-marked shortcut. The path is narrow and tight in places, but walkable with care. It’s a quick way to reach:

  • 🏖️ Xlendi Bay for a swim
  • 🍴 Seafront cafés for lunch
  • 🚶‍♂️ Scenic waterfront walkways

What Next?

  • You can return to Munxar via the same red trail (great for a scenic uphill cycle),
  • or take time to explore Xlendi before looping back.

This flexibility makes Route 1 ideal for riders of all skill levels and interests.
