Ta Mixta View Seaside Rides

Caves, Cliffs & Temples Trail

This e-bike adventure takes you through some of Gozo’s most iconic historical and natural landmarks. Start at the ancient Ġgantija Temples, then pass through Xerri’s Grotto and Ninu’s Cave, two underground gems in Xagħra. Continue on to the legendary Calypso Cave for a stunning view over Ramla Bay, where the main route ends.

For those wanting more, an optional trail leads up to Tal-Mixta Cave — a panoramic cliffside cave with unforgettable views over the entire bay. Perfect for riders looking to explore Gozo’s rich blend of mythology, geology, and coastline.

Start: Ġgantija Temples

Your adventure begins at the entrance to the Ġgantija Temples, one of the world’s oldest free-standing human structures and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Take a few minutes to explore the megalithic ruins before riding north into Xagħra, a village full of geological surprises.

Underground Wonders of Xagħra

📍 Xerri’s Grotto
A hidden underground cave discovered beneath a private home, filled with stalactites and stalagmites shaped over thousands of years. Guided tours are short and insightful — a unique Gozo experience.

📍 Ninu’s Cave
Located just a few streets away, this lesser-known cave offers even more fascinating formations. It’s family-run and cozy, making it a perfect quick stop before heading further.

🔴 Red Route – Ride to Ramla & the Calypso Trail

Cycle through the heart of the village and begin your descent toward Calypso Cave, following local roads that blend rural life with coastline beauty.

📍 Blue Route – Calypso View Trail
This route leads to the fabled Calypso Cave, believed by some to be the home of the nymph Calypso in Homer’s Odyssey. While the cave itself is closed for safety, the nearby viewpoint is well worth the stop.

📍 Calypso Cave Viewpoint
From here, gaze out over Ramla Bay’s wide stretch of red-tinged sand. It’s one of the best panoramic lookouts on the island. Park your bike and walk the short trail to the cliff’s edge for photos.

🏖️📍 End of Route – Ramla Bay

You’ve arrived at Ramla Bay, Gozo’s most iconic beach. Known for its unique golden-red sand, crystal-clear waters, and peaceful energy — it’s the perfect place to unwind after your ride.

🏝️ You’ll find kiosks for snacks, shaded spots for rest, and gentle waves for a refreshing swim.

🟢 Optional Extension: Tal-Mixta Cave Trail

Want more? For those up for a scenic climb, the Green Route leads to one of Gozo’s best-kept secrets:

📍 Tal-Mixta Cave Viewpoint
A wide, naturally formed cave set into the cliffs high above Ramla. From here, you get an unbeatable panoramic view of the entire bay and surrounding farmland.

⚠️ The last section is uneven — best approached on foot. Park your eBike near the trail entrance and walk the final 3–5 minutes.
